Programme: Hinges

There are pivot points in life. Moments of change, of a new direction, of an end and a beginning: in short, turning points. Throughout my life I have always felt drawn toward finding and understanding these junctures, whether they be in history, a musical tradition, or my own life. By realizing and comprehending where the hinge of a matter is we come to a much more complete understanding of what lies ahead of us. Looking back awakens a nostalgia for what was, and yet we have the hopeful expectation of what may come.

In programming this recital I went with the idea of the miniature, because through the brief few minutes of each piece we pass through a different sonic world, and experience the ‘hinges’ between pieces in close proximity.
