Programme: J.S. Bach | Suites for Cello Solo | "Single Voice Polyphony"

The Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello by J S Bach are some of the most recognizable and brilliant solo compositions ever written for cello. The suites contain a plethora of technical ingenuity, a wide emotional range, and some of Bach's most compelling voice interactions and conversations; all displayed through the incredible minimalism of a single "voice" It is their intimacy, however, that has made the suites amongst Bach's most popular works today.

This is the first of two concerts featuring cellist Joseph Kuipers, Artistic Director of the Marinus Ensemble, and the complete suites of J.S. Bach.

J.S. Bach:

Suite No. 1 in G major for Cello Solo BWV 1007
Suite No. 3 in C major for Cello Solo BWV 1009
Suite No. 5 in C minor for Cello Solo BWV 1011
